CONFECTIONS BY AMY STEVENS


Amy Stevens' confections started out as part of a "turning 30" project: make 30 cakes to photograph for her thesis show. It wasn't long before the artist realized that striving for iced perfection didn't come naturally and decided to aim for exuberance instead. Stevens' cakes are loud displays of sugar and spice and everything ... well, just everything. Cake dec gone bad is a vibrant strike against the shrines to domestic living, done extravagantly, indulgently well.
